Subaru patents Simulated Manual Transmission?
January 30, 2026
Subaru has filed a new patent titled: Jackrabbit Start Suppression Device and Vehicle.
What does that mean? We had the same question, and it turns out that this is a very bad name for a simulated manual transmission for an Electric Vehicle.
On the surface this seems somewhat strange, but when you think about what Hyundai has been doing with the paddle shifters in the Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 6 N, this could be the next logical step to try to bring a more analog feel to a more digital feeling EV.
And it turns out that Subaru may have been working on this for the last 4 years or more...
So what does it mean? Could this be the key to a more fun and more engaging STI EV?
Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
