What does a Rally Co-Driver do?

In a Rally Car, the is always a crew of 2.  The Driver to drive the car, and the Co-Driver to help navigate.

But what does the Co-Driver do?

Navigation is the obvious answer, but there is a lot more to that job that you might expect.
