Subaru is bringing the STI back???

When Subaru announced that there was going to be a new WRX in 2022, but that there would not be an STI version, it was hard to believe.

Up to that point, there had been many rumors about how the next STI was going to be a game changer.  A big step forward from the current (2021) STI.

Many of us were disappointed.

For a while, all of the information coming out from all sources was that the next STI was going to be fully electric, but that it wouldn't be coming out until the end of the decade.  Nine years without an STI was not only surprising, but it also seemed like Subaru was making a pretty big mistake.  How many of us would be willing to wait a year or two, much less 9 years for the next STI?

Then the rumors started popping up that Subaru was reconsidering its stance on the STI.  Maybe they could find a way to bring it back...

None of those rumors seemed to have very much behind them, but now that may have changed.

Jonny Lieberman of Motor Trend was on the Spike's Car Radio podcast with guest Sam Fane on July 30th, and has said that he has a reliable source from Subaru saying that the STI is coming back for sure...

Needless to say, this news got our wheels turning at the shop this morning.  This certainly seems exciting, but what about the WRX?  Is there really room for an STI compared to the WRX TR and TS?

And what would the STI need to have to make it really stand out in the current market?

We give you our thoughts in this episode, and we definitely want to hear what you think in the comments below.
